MI MUST come out with a 5/8 x 24 brake for me to try out on the. As to recoil reduction, it is not much to begin with but with it there pretty much is none. The MI brake kept the rifle right on target, eliminating muzzle jump completely. That pretty much shows that almost all if not all of the gases are being expelled out the side baffles. I feel sure there would be if I had shot more but with only 30 rounds, not a trace on the front. What I did not expect was that there was zero, nada, not a smidge of powder residue on the front of the brake. I put 30 rounds down range and when finished, it is hard to miss the amount of powder residue on the baffles on the sides. From past experience with this type of brake though I feel confident that it would be substantial. Nobody else was with me so I cannot get an opinion about the blast to the side. In fact, when I shot out from under the roof the blast was greatly reduced, at least to the shooter. If not for the tapered overhang the blast wound not be near as bad. With this brake, it downright rattles your teeth. It is great for keeping wind and rain off but muzzle blast is reflected back on the shooter even without a brake. My shooting range is covered with a tapered roof going to about 5" 10 inches above the ground and extends about 10 feet in front of the shooting bench. This style of brake really stops the recoil although there is a price to paid for said recoil reduction. This is very close to the SSK Industries Recoil Arrestor brake on my 12 inch Encore. The interior of the brake are three large expansion chambers with side ports, no bottom or top ports, that allow for a lot of gas to be vented to the sides. Sticking out from the end of the MI Gen 2 SS 15 inch forend there is not a whole lot of barrel showing and I find the look very much to my liking. The taper on the rear end of it blends nicely with the shoulder behind the threads on the Wilson LW barrel.

The first thing I noticed when I took it out of the package is that it looks a LOT better than the pictures on MI's web site. Let's face it, the 5.56 does not recoil enough in a standard rifle to move you off target much anyway, but that little lightweight (7.2 pounds) does jump around a bit more than your standard 5.56.

I threw it on a lightweight 5.56 build I had to see what it would do first thing this morning. I received the 5.56 Midwest Industries brake on Monday.
